PACKETVIDEO MUSIC CLIENT POWERS VERSATILE NEW MUSIC SERVICE FOR NETCOM
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 11, 2009)—NetCom’s 1.2 million mobile subscribers will soon have access to a flexible new music service that offers music subscriptions, including music side-loading from a PC, powered by PacketVideo (PV). NetCom, the second largest mobile operator in Norway, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TeliaSonera. TeliaSonera initially launched the music service in December 2008 in Sweden under the name Telia Music Player, and is working with PV to expand the service to additional TeliaSonera regional brands over the next year.
The music service employs PV’s proven music solution, including client software for mobile devices and PCs that enables users to seamlessly synchronize music files between their PC, handset and other compatible CE devices without the need to change file formats or pay separate payload or delivery fees. Additionally, the service will be available on a broad number of Windows Mobile-, Symbian- and Java-based handsets, including smartphones and select feature phones.
“The NetCom music service demonstrates a deep understanding of how users want to be able to obtain and enjoy their music, simplifying the ability to share and synchronize music across multiple devices regardless of file format,” said Neil Sharma, senior vice president of Strategic Initiatives, PV. “We look forward to working with TeliaSonera and NetCom to provide their customers with one of the most dynamic and consumer-friendly music services available in the world.”
PV’s solution will enable TeliaSonera to customize both language and user interface appearance – or “skin” – to specific brands throughout the TeliaSonera network, providing a key benefit to the mobile operator. The service also incorporates PV’s proprietary SDC digital rights management system, which ensures media usage rights are maintained in a manner that is unobtrusive to users, while making file sharing and synchronization across multiple devices possible.
